On May 15 at 7:00 p.m., the Ola Foundation cultural venue invites you to a special concert event - Arturs Maskats’ composer’s evening, centered on the composer himself and his musical world.
Arturs Maskats is one of Latvia’s most significant composers - a figure whose music has shaped Latvia’s cultural soundscape for decades and is performed in concert halls and opera houses around the world, as well as in film scores. His musical signature is unmistakable: intellectually profound, emotionally rich, poetic, and at the same time deeply human.
The centerpiece of the evening will be the composer’s vocal cycle “Venetian Lines” for soprano and piano quartet - a tribute to Venice’s vanishing yet eternal beauty. The work was created in several languages as a dialogue between poets from different cultures and mentalities, in which Venice becomes a place where the poets’ diverse temperaments and desires for life come together in a shared sound and reflections on the water.
Inga Kalna - an internationally sought-after opera star whose soprano is heard in the world’s most prestigious opera houses and concert halls - will lend the composer’s evening a special brilliance. Her presence at this evening is an event in itself - charisma, musical intelligence, and elegance.
She will perform alongside outstanding musicians of her generation - violinist Elīna Bukša, cellist Kristaps Bergs, violist Pēteris Trasuns, and pianist Aurēlija Šimkus - artists whose names are associated with the highest professional standards, refined sensitivity, and inner freedom in music-making.
The program is intentionally not being revealed in full, leaving room for beautiful surprises. All that is known is that it will combine recently composed music, special dedications, and Latvian premieres.
