There are evenings when music sounds closer - more personal, breathing in one rhythm with the listener. This is exactly what the February 20 concert at Ola promises to be, when brother and sister - pianist Daumants Liepiņš and violinist Madara Liepiņa - meet on stage.

Both are among the outstanding Latvian musicians of their generation - internationally acclaimed, with brilliant successes in prestigious competitions and extensive concert experience in Europe's leading halls.

The evening's programme is designed as an elegant journey - virtuosic, lyrical and sparkling all at once. It will take us from Ludwig van Beethoven's playful variations on the theme of Mozart's “The Marriage of Figaro” to Antonín Dvořák's Slavic temperament, Fritz Kreisler's Viennese charm and Pablo de Sarasate's fiery Gypsy melodies. The programme will culminate in Bedřich Smetana's poignant and deeply personal cycle From the Homeland.

As Madara herself says: “We will whirl between dances and salon caprices - a colourful, vivid swirl of images, with melodies rich in stories and sparkling virtuosity.”

This will be an evening in which music lives in the nuances and in the genuine joy of being together. A concert in which the music-making of brother and sister becomes a single story.
