On November 29, the world-renowned violinist Gidon Kremer, pianist Rihards Plešanovs, and the musicians of the Kremerata Lettonica ensemble will come together at the Ola Foundation music salon for a special concert evening to honor one of Latvia’s most significant composers, Tālivaldis Ķeniņš.

The concert is dedicated to the newly released album Tribute to Tālivaldis Ķeniņš, released under the SKANI record label and revealing the diversity, depth, and unmistakable voice of the composer’s chamber music.

Tālivaldis Ķeniņš was a composer whose life unfolded far from Latvia, yet the roots of his music always remained in his homeland. Alongside Latvian sensibility, his works embody a broad world perspective, intellectual elegance, and a striking richness of musical color.

Gidon Kremer’s participation lends special significance to this evening. He says of Tālivaldis Ķeniņš:

“Tālivaldis Ķeniņš is one of the few Baltic composers who, after becoming a Canadian citizen, achieved international recognition and still deserves greater appreciation. Ķeniņš’s music is characterized by a synthesis of a classical approach with contemporary styles and compositional techniques. It is precisely this combination that makes his work special.”

Violinist and artistic director of Kremerata Lettonica, as well as the initiator of the concept and creation of the album of Tālivaldis Ķeniņš’s chamber music, Madara Pētersone says:

“I vividly remember the sense of discovery and joy I felt toward Tālivaldis Ķeniņš’s music after the first rehearsal of the work Concertino barocco «Omaggio à J. S. Bach» for two violins. I took the duet’s score from a distant shelf in the library. And that joy continued to grow with every concert in which we played the work, as we felt the interaction with the audience. It gave us the confidence that Ķeniņš’s music reaches all of our hearts.''

Gidon Kremer will be joined by pianist Rihards Plešanovs and the musicians of the Kremerata Lettonica ensemble – Madara Pētersone, Zane Kalniņa, Jevgenija Frolova, Magdalena Ceple, and Jurijs Gavriļuks.
