Starting on September 17, the Ola Foundation cultural venue invites you to the solo exhibition MANA PASAULE by the prominent Latvian painter and influential figure in Latvian art, KASPARS ZARIŅŠ. The exhibition features the artist’s latest paintings, created over the past two years, as well as several works from earlier periods that reveal the author’s longstanding themes and the development of his visual language.
About the exhibition MANA PASAULE
“My world is painting. In it, I tell stories about feelings as I see and feel them.
My themes are people, their relationships with one another, psychology and emotions. They are
the fruits of my observations and imagination,” says Kaspars Zariņš.
The works exhibited reveal the multilayered nature of people, their relationships with one another and psychology. They are compositions created both from the artist’s observations and from his imagination.
The author’s figure The Pedant continues to transform, acquiring new forms and meanings. The artist is fascinated by variations on the theme of the Last Supper - not in a religious sense, but as a reflection on the world’s changing yet enduring values: love, joy, betrayal and loyalty to ideals.
“I speak about love, joy, betrayal and loyalty to ideals. In other words,
I am interested in subjectivizing the objective. Capturing a moment and fixing it in a painting - that
is the challenge,” says the artist.
The exhibition gives special attention to floral and fountain motifs - symbols of the beauty of the world, the fleeting moment and movement. Flowers fascinate with their richness of form and surprising colors, while fountains in the paintings embody the shimmer of flowing water and the continuity of life.
Artistic language
Kaspars Zariņš emphasizes that his painting is grounded in more than thirty-five years of experience:
“My language of painting combines Western European traditions and the world’s experience
in the visual arts. Color is the artist’s true eye. Joy or suffering compels one to create.
Color and its combination with form and spatial depth are what challenge me and make me
search for the unknown in the visible and invisible world.”
This approach makes Zariņš’s works not only visually vivid but also intellectually profound - in his paintings, color becomes a vehicle for thought and emotion, allowing viewers to experience both aesthetic pleasure and personal revelations.
