Izstāde “Kolekcionārs kolekcionāram”

Exhibition “Collector to Collector”

20 March, 12:00 | Ola Foundation

March 20 - June 30

Ola Foundation

From March 20 to June 30, Ola Foundation will present the exhibition “Collector to Collector” - a special showcase bringing together various private art collections from Latvia in one place. This time, the exhibited works will also be available for purchase.

The exhibition will feature works by significant artists from different generations - including Vilhelms Purvītis, Jānis Valters, Rūdolfs Pinnis, Jānis Pauļuks and other artists. These works can become either a strong foundation for a new collection or a valuable addition to an existing one.

Alongside concerts, discussions and solo exhibitions by artists, Ola Foundation has developed a special tradition of opening to the public works that are kept in Latvia’s private collections and are usually unavailable to a wider audience. Such exhibitions offer an opportunity to discover artefacts of significance to Latvian culture and art history, while also revealing their personal and historical stories.

The owners of private collections are responsive and happy to share their treasures - collections that reveal the histories of artists’ and collectors’ families, the fates of works of art, and sometimes even stories about preserving, searching for and bringing significant works to Latvia.

Works by renowned classics will always be especially respected among collectors, like cornerstones. They often become the culmination of a private collection - a value around which the rest of the story is built.

Every collector grows together with their collection, gaining a deeper understanding of the art world and its processes. The story of the first work of art purchased remains in one’s memory for a lifetime - even if one’s understanding, taste and priorities have developed far beyond the initial impulse over the years.

Truly passionate collectors are united by constant interest and a readiness to make additions. They follow developments in art and market trends, remaining alert and retaining a certain sense of excitement. Perhaps an outstanding collector is someone who is able to take risks - someone who is the first to sense an as-yet-unrecognised artist or direction, like an observant mushroom gatherer spotting an exceptional porcini where others have walked past.

Art collections are not static. Paintings on the wall may not only be temporarily changed, but also replaced with newly acquired works that reflect the owner’s new perspective, values and experience. A collection lives alongside its owner.

During the exhibition, collector talks, individual consultations and a special auction are planned. Dates and times will be announced separately.
