From 4 July 2026, the Ola Foundation cultural space will present “Source of Strength”, an exhibition of the latest paintings by the artist Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa.
The exhibition will feature works created over the past few months. Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa’s painting is characterized by a nuanced sense of color, a poetic atmosphere, and the ability to transform the everyday into an emotionally rich experience. In this exhibition about Flowers have become the central motif. In the artist’s works, they are not merely a motif from nature, but a way of addressing fragility, resilience, and the ever-present nature of change.
The idea for the exhibition was born in the creative process itself. Daily discipline, concentration, and repeatedly returning to painting became a way for the artist to find balance, enerģand joy. This experience in particular gave the exhibition its title - “Source of Strength”.
Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa says about the creation of the exhibition:
While painting, I felt a sense of satisfaction with every flower I painted; it seemed that each one was like a small world of its own. The passion with which I painted them one after another brought me increasing joy, and when a painting was finished, I looked at it and felt happy about what I had accomplished. At that moment, I realized that flowers would become the leading motif in my upcoming exhibition. Flowers are not merely a motif from nature in my works; they become emotional figures that simultaneously reveal both their fragility and resilience.
With each successive work painted for the exhibition, painting every day with discipline, I felt how much strength what I do gives me. One day while working, I realized that I would call the exhibition ‘Source of Strength’.
The exhibition invites visitors to focus not only on the works themselves but also on the creative process as a meaningful experience. An everyday impulse - a bouquet of flowers brought home - became the starting point for a new series of works, which gradually developed into reflections on presence, attention, and the ability to find strength in seemingly simple things.
Kristīne Luīze Avotiņa is a Latvian painter and a graduate of the Art Academy of Latvia. Since the early 2000s, she has regularly held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Latvia and abroad, developing a distinctive and consistent style within contemporary Latvian painting. The artist’s works are held in the Swedbank art collection, as well as in private collections in Latvia, France, Norwayģin Luxembourg and elsewhere in Europe.
