Mākslinieku grupas izstāde “Pirmavoti”

Group exhibition by artists “Sources”

21 November, 12:00 | Ola Foundation

From November 21, 2025, to March 14, 2026, the OLA FOUNDATION's large exhibition hall will host “Sources,” a group exhibition dedicated to family ties and the significance of creative succession in Latvian art. The exhibition reveals how artists from different generations create a shared field of visual identity in their works.

Approximately 60 works of art in various media present a multilayered and analytical “family portrait” of Latvian art, in which both the imprint of the era and the individual artistic styles of the authors emerge.

The exhibition includes fourteen artist families, selected by curator Auguste Petre.

The exhibition's concept reveals that Latvian art is rich in powerful creative lineages whose full spectrum cannot be encompassed in a single exhibition. “Sources” highlights both succession across several generations and family tandems, while also emphasizing the diversity of artistic expression and the media used.

The participating artists include Normunds and Elīna Brasliņš, Džemma Skulme, Juris Dimiters and Artūrs Dimiters, Andris and Aleksandrs Breže, Ansis Starks, Andra and Katrīna Neiburga, MAREUNROL’S, Frančeska Kirke, Gunārs Kirke and Večella Varslavāne, Kate Krolle and Reinis Bērziņš, Ansis, Kristaps and Ieva Epner, SkujaBraden, Helēna, Anna and Ivars Heinrihsons and Sarmīte Māliņa, as well as other outstanding Latvian artists.

Each of the authors represented in the exhibition embodies both the spirit of their time and the identity of Latvian art within a broader cultural and aesthetic context. Artists of the older generation have become sources of inspiration for their younger descendants, while the younger authors create today, with their gaze directed toward the future.

The exhibition design was created by artist Aleksejs Beļeckis, with attention to both the family dialogue and the distinctive architecture of OLA FOUNDATION.

The author of the exhibition's visual identity is artist Estere Betija Grāvere.

The exhibition is not conceived as a linear story or chronological sequence. Instead, it emphasizes fields of visual and intellectual succession revealed through the interaction of generations of related artists. The arrangement of the works in the space takes into account their relationship to time - both historical and symbolic - allowing visitors to experience how impulses from the past resonate in the present.

The exhibition includes works from the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Art, the Latvian Artists' Union, VV Foundation, Galerija Māksla XO, Ola Foundation, and the artists themselves.
