On February 19 at 17:00, we invite you to a conversation on the topic “Who owns the story in today’s world?”
A discussion about the media, responsibility, and people in an age of information overload
In a world where there is more information than ever before, the story has become one of the most powerful tools. It influences our thoughts, choices, moods, and even our sense of reality. But who truly owns the story today? The media, society, algorithms - or the person who creates it?
At the first OLAS SARUNAS event of the year, we invite you to a discussion with four influential figures in Latvia’s media environment, whose voices and decisions have shaped the public sphere for many years.
Featured guests:
- Santa Anča - Editor-in-chief and co-owner of the publishing house Žurnāls Santa
- Aija Šmidre - Owner of the publishing house Rīgas Viļņi
- Andrejs Ēķis - Film producer and director
- Jānis Šipkēvics - Founder and chairman of the board of Radio SWH
The discussion will be moderated by Anna Peipiņa, editor of the magazines “Ieva” and “Annas Psiholoģija”.
This will not be a conversation solely about the media. It will be a conversation about people in a world where the flow of information often obscures meaning, speed becomes more important than depth, and there are more opinions than time to truly understand them.
Discussion focus:
- whether the media still shapes the way we think or primarily reflects society’s mood
- where stories are born today - in the newsroom or in society
- how media responsibility is changing at a time when the boundaries between fact, opinion, and emotion are becoming increasingly fragile
- how to preserve your voice, values, and editorial backbone over the long term
- what people are really looking for in the media - peace, belonging, clarity, or sensation
- why some media outlets survive for decades while others last only a moment
Venue: Ola Foundation cultural space, Ogļu iela 12a, Riga
Admission is free, with prior registration required.
