On October 8 at 17:00, we invite you to a conversation with art historian, painter, and longtime director of the Rundāle Palace Museum IMANTS LANCMANIS on the topic "The Latvian Code at the Crossroads of Eras. Beautiful and Uncomfortable Truths.”
What is our nation’s mental cipher? What can we be proud of, and what darker sides should we recognize in ourselves? What truths have yet to be spoken? How has the Latvian code withstood the tests of history, and how is it transforming today?
Are the paradoxes that have shaped us - seven hundred years of serfdom and the birth of the dainas, the events of 1905, the traumatic experience of the 1940s - our strength or our shadow? Why do we sometimes resist, while at other times submit so easily? And what does this mean today, when Latvians once again stand at the crossroads of eras?
She conversation will be moderated by renowned journalist and OLAS SARUNAS’ regular moderator Anna Peipiņa.
Venue: Ola Foundation cultural space, Ogļu iela 12a, Riga, seminar room on the 1st floor
Date and time: October 8, 17:00-19:00, arrival from 16:30
Admission is free; please register in advance, as places are limited.
The event will be filmed and photographed.
