On August 23 at 19:00, at the cultural venue Ola Foundation the well-known and audience-favorite actor Maksims Busels will appear with a special Arturs Maskats music program.

The concert will feature songs by Arturs Maskats with lyrics by Jānis Rainis and Aspazija, Aleksandrs Čaks, and Māra Zālīte. 

As a special event of this concert evening, the premiere of Arturs Maskats' songs with lyrics by the poet Ēriks Ādamsons will be performed.

The concert evening will be a beautiful musical journey, offering listeners the opportunity to enjoy the harmony of Latvian poetry and music from different eras and styles. Through his charismatic performance and outstanding acting skills, Maksims Busels will reveal the depth and nuances of Arturs Maskats' compositions.

The concert is in two parts. Intermission: 30 minutes.

The concert begins at 19:00; guests are invited to arrive from 18:15 to view the current exhibitions and enjoy a summer welcome cocktail. /Supporters:  Ararat, Chocolate corner/

 

BIO

ARTURS MASKATS - one of the most prominent contemporary Latvian composers, whose theatrical music can unquestionably be considered the focal point of his creative life. Arturs Maskats has received the  Great Music Prize several times. In 2007, he received the  Lielais Kristaps award for the music to the film  Dark Deer, while in 2008 he won first place in the original opera competition for the opera Valentīna. In 2015, he was awarded the Order of the Three Stars for contributions to Latvian culture and outstanding creative achievements. Arturs Maskats' music combines intense emotionality and sensitivity. For fifteen years (1982-1997), the composer was head of the Music Department at Dailes Theatre, composing music for around 100 productions, including for other Latvian theatres. These included legendary productions such as  Touched by Eternity, Gesta Berlings, Thérèse Raquin, Vācietis.Novembris.Klavierkoncerts, Tango and others, for which the composer received numerous awards. In his creative work, the composer has also written symphonic, chamber, film, and operatic music. 

MAKSIMS BUSELS – an actor known and loved by theatre audiences for roles such as Count Monte Cristo, Eižens Finks in the rock opera  Sphinx (2024), Hamlet, and the narrator in the one-man show  The Legend of the Pianist. 1900, for which he was nominated Actor of the Year at Spēlmaņu nakts 2017./2018. For his role as Hamlet, Maksims Busels received the audience award at  Spēlmaņu nakts 2022./2023., while for his role as Eižens Finks he was nominated Actor of the Year at  Spēlmaņu nakts 2023./2024. In addition to the series  Dzelzs Nervi and Apsūdzēti mīlestībā, in which Maksims plays the leading roles.

JĀNIS RUBIKS - double bassist, bass guitarist, composer, and arranger.  Proficient on both double bass and bass guitar, he works across a diverse and broad musical and genre spectrum, ranging from jazz and improvised music to classical and popular music.

AUSTRIS KALNIŅŠ - pianist, conductor, and composer. As an artistic director, conductor, and choirmaster, he is actively involved in choral music. He sang with the Riga Chamber Choir  Ave Sol. He is active as a concertmaster and participates in projects across various genres, including both classical and popular music projects.
